7) Swing Trinity RS Paraglider, Freestyle EN-D & Competition Acro

The true potential of RAST has become apparent with the development of the TRINITY RS acro paraglider.

For the first time ever Swing has produced a true acro paraglider with EN-certification:

  • With normal wing loading, the TRINITY RS is the perfect freestyle paraglider.
  • With high wing loading, the TRINITY RS becomes a classy acro-competition paraglider.

The RAST system in the TRINITY has three unbeatable advantages, which no other acro-glider on the market offers!

The RAST system in the TRINITY RS is of interest in terms of safety:

Collapses and front stalls fall within the certification limits. The special construction method used for the TRINITY RS means the risk of line-overs, twists and front rosettes is noticeably reduced.

More importantly… the RAST system in the TRINITY RS makes it possible to fly manoeuvres which are not possible with a conventionally constructed glider!

The RAST system means that there is a delay before the rear section empties: the air remains in the canopy for longer on dynamic manoeuvres and momentum is not lost. This makes transitions more fluid, more dynamic and much easier to fly. New combinations are available to the pilot as a result of the high internal pressure, because a centred heli can be flown from almost any position without having to start it first by way of a stall. So, for example, it is possible, if the glider is still under the pilot, to start a heli from a dynamic full stall and go into the heli without any transition. Or a pilot can simply send the TRINITY RS out of a heli and immediately go into a SAT, without the glider briefly having to gain momentum.

Thanks to RAST, the TRINITY RS reacts to pilot input without delay

… and with surprisingly little control travel, but without the pilot being at risk of an unintentional stall. In doing so, the buffer section reliably takes on the damping function when exiting from dynamic manoeuvres and problems, and this has opened the door for EN-certification.

What are acro pilots saying about the TRINITY RS?

"Relatively easy glider. Well done!"

Samuel, tested the TRINITY RS at the Stubai Cup

"Very balanced in terms of braking pressure and dynamics. Many manoeuvres are easy to carry out and very forgiving even though it’s a classy acro glider“

Andi, tested the TRINITY RS at the Stubai Cup

Technical highlights of the TRINITY RS

  • RAST: patented technology for the first time in an acro glider.  RAST makes new manoeuvres possible and reduces the risk of front rosettes, major line-overs and unintentional emptying
  • Profile Morphing: a fast, nearly symmetrical profile in the centre, which transforms smoothly towards the wing tip into a wide very soft profile. This makes the glider less sensitive to pilot errors and the heli can always easily be centred.
  • 3D-Shaping
  • Reinforced Nose Profile: leading edge with battens
  • Robust Construction Methods: for extreme load-bearing capacity when learning and flying acro manoeuvres: reinforced leading edge, reinforced pivot points, stitched-in V-ribs and stitched-in inner tape.

5) Swing Nexus Paraglider, EN-C

NEXUS - Off the Beaten track

Impressive distances are being flown at faster and faster speeds - and in conditions which are sometimes very challenging. At the same time, glide, stability and balanced damping for performance oriented flying are becoming increasingly important so that paragliding pilots can reach the average speed required.

Swing's response to these demands is the NEXUS - a cross-country paraglider developed for tough conditions, which is reliable, intuitive and has better performance than ever, whether at full throttle, or when gliding or climbing. And the rougher the air, the more it is in its element!

These features make the NEXUS an option for a very broad group of pilots, from experienced social pilots right through to ace cross-country pilots going after records. It is a true “all-terrain glider” for any distance and all flying conditions, which will also be appealing in pure racing.

The NEXUS makes any challenge fun. The complete control through the steering lines and the amazing stability of the canopy will mean that you are more confident and comfortable in rough conditions and turbulence.

After the first taste of acceleration, you’ll be wanting to go at full pedal for any level flight, however short. The glide, stability and directional stability at full acceleration are so convincing that it is like being under a rigid surface. And at the same time there is such a high level of tolerance to changes in the angle of attack (i.e. to undercutting) that you might completely forget to release the speed bar at the next thermal.

How did Swing achieve this?

  • the key factor is a new profile which has the stabilising effect of a shark nose profile, but not the uneven edge on the bottom surface which increases drag and reduces performance
  • intelligent lightweight design
  • canopy tension optimised for each individual cell right down to the smallest detail
  • rigorous and systematic adjustments, testing and comparison in a wide range of conditions until Swing obtained the ideal result: field tests with the full variety of seated and prone harnesses, in high summer in the Dolomites and in the Abruzzo region, coastal soaring in South America and at altitudes of up to 4,700 m.

Swing has proof in black and white

Swing had the opportunity to test out the prototypes as part of a study on performance measurement by Compass, the flight computer manufacturer. For the first time, pure glide ratio was determined not from the relationship between distance covered and height lost, but from the exact angle of the passing airflow, using a new type of measuring device, the C-Lab.

The findings on the performance of the NEXUS, compared to its main competitors, are convincing: consistent glide ratio over 10, reliable trim speeds of almost 40 km/h, up to 55 km/h when accelerated!

Technology:

New profile:

The profile Swing used is a completely recalculated profile with double-3D-shaping for specific use with paragliders. It is the best compromise between stability and performance currently known.

Intelligent lightweight construction:

Lightweight materials have a tendency to become deformed after just a few flights and the wing’s glide decreases. For this reason Swing uses lightweight materials only on the lower surface and in certain parts of the inner areas, so that there is the least possible loss of performance because of stretching.

Design:

Wing tension was optimised individually for each cell of the NEXUS in small stages and repeat testing.
3D-shaping in the top surface and, for the first time, in the bottom surface: the 3D-shaping takes the tension out of the leading edge and reduces distortion of the inflated profile. The additional 3D shaping in the lower surface has proven valuable to give a balanced stress ratio and even less distortion.

Quality:

NCV Skytex 32 and 27 gram sail fabric, top quality from Europe. The NCV fabrics are well known because the quality, weight and the standard of their coating in all colours achieves the standards promised. The somewhat higher costs are justified by the simple fact that loss of performance caused by diagonal stretch becomes measurable only after many hundreds of flights.

The V-ribs are the extension of the lines in the canopy, in order to support the non-attached ribs. If they stretch, the glider becomes slower and looses performance. To prevent this, with the NEXUS all V-ribs are stitched down and given additional reinforcement.

For the lines Swing has have an intelligent combination of Dyneema and Technora lines, from established European manufacturers.

High tech-risers:

The new sophisticated speed system optimizes glide at half throttle and at full throttle!

The C-bridge on the risers allow the active flying typical in big cross country flying and competition.

The attachment of the stabilo line to the canopy and position of the main stabilo lines on the riser allow gentle turns at full throttle without any loss of speed or performance.

5) Swing Nyos RS Paraglider, Top EN-B

Purchase Inquiry Price Quote (Click Here): Swing Nyos RS Paraglider

The NYOS was the paraglider flown by Didi Siglbauer to win the DHV-XC two years in a row. The successful strategy behind this glider is entering its next phase of development with the NYOS RS!

The main difference between the NYOS RS and the NYOS is the fact that it is much easier for pilots to tap into its performance potential because of the increase in stability and control.

Requirements for the NYOS RS

“Can you make it with an even higher aspect ratio? It’s just so easy to fly!”

That’s what Swing heard most often from pilots flying the new NYOS RS during field testing.

Yes, Swing can do that - and did build several higher aspect ratio prototypes.  There was minimal performance increase though, since there is little room to improve glide and climb within the top of the EN-B class.

In Swing's opinion and from thier experience, the NYOS RS is the easiest and most pleasant paraglider to fly currently available in the high EN-B category. The pilot stays in full control even in significantly turbulent conditions, thanks to RAST. If there are nevertheless any disruptions, in the vast majority of cases, these are stopped by the “wall”. Dynamics, demands on the pilot and loss of altitude are often even less than with current EN-A gliders. The more turbulent the air, the more marked the difference from gliders without RAST. When pilots flying gliders without RAST are already starting to notice unpleasant turbulent conditions, the NYOS RS continues to convey safety and a good feeling during flight.

Swing is confident that there is no other paraglider available which matches its combination of safety, damping, performance and handling – making the NYOS RS the first in a new class, the comfort-performance class!

NYOS RS - an innovative work of art

RAST 2.0

The NYOS RS uses the latest generation of Swing's bulkhead partition system with non-return valves and perfected tension distribution.

A third level of tension is created above the pilot, in addition to the leading edge and trailing edge tension, providing a completely new feeling of stability.

The NYOS RS is now brought into the top EN-B performance class for the first time wiht this new exclusive RAST feeling, which you can read about in all test reports of other SWING gliders with RAST.

It would be hard to get a more functional design of the RAST system under the certification requirements beyond the NYOS RS. It was very difficult to provoke the collapses required for certification in the specified measurement field. The norm would have to be altered for even greater stability. Collapses across the wing chord and front stalls with great loss of altitude are extremely unlikely with the NYOS RS. Swing has not yet experienced any collapses or front stalls in actual flight where the folding angle was not reliably stopped by the RAST wall – and before the pilot was able to intervene. Swing test flights and simulations are not carried out only over water. Particularly in testing RAST, Swing intentionally seeks out challenging flying days in the Dolomites during spring and summer, so that they get findings under real conditions!

The result: it has never been so easy to use the full performance potential of a paraglider even in tough conditions – thanks to the 6 major advantages of RAST:

  1. Stress Free Launch
  2. Authoritive Handling
  3. Complete Control
  4. Tamed Collapses
  5. Fully Realized Performance
  6. Unparalleld Stability

Nitinol Leading Edge Reinforcements

The leading edge needs to have the most stable shape possible when it comes to maximum performance and stability, particularly at full speed.

The disadvantage of traditional plastic stiffening is that it has a predetermined curve, which can reduce stretch in the leading edge.

An innovative solution is to use rods made from the high-tech memory metal Nitinol.

These are inherently straight and stretch the leading edge like a drum, when fed into the guide channels.

Nitinol is a nickel-titanium alloy used in medical engineering because of its dimensional stability, e.g. in dental braces, glasses frames and fixation devices.

All leading edge reinforcements for the NYOS RS are manufactured from this quality material. This means that you neither have to pack up the NYOS RS painstakingly cell by cell, nor leave it unfolded if you are not flying for a long time.

Simply roll it up, compress it firmly and you have the pack size of a mountain glider!

Modern New Fabric

You will notice the new glider fabric used for the NYOS RS. It is shinier, comes in a range of new colours and feels different to the touch from regular fabrics. The material was developed in close collaboration with Swing's supplier and was optimised for use in paraglider manufacture. The new high-tech fabric is extremely lightweight and stands out because of its above average form stability, tear resistance and durability.

Optimised profile

The profile of the NYOS RS is a logical refinement of the tried and tested NEXUS profile. Most performance paragliders fly best at the upper limit of their specified weight range. This is not the case with the NYOS RS: speed and performance are nearly identical across the entire weight range.

Robust Lightweight Construction

The profile ribs and diagonal ribs have been made thinner, without weakening the strategically important load points. The diagonal ribs are sewn down along the cut edges, and through to the back in the C/D level, so that they stay the same length over a long time even in tough conditions.

Riser perfected for accelerated speeds

It’s not much help if a paraglider can fly fast but your knees suffer in the process! That’s why Swing spent a good deal of time and energy on the risers for the NYOS RS. Minimal force is needed when accelerating and the full throttle position can be held for a long time without causing leg cramps or discomfort.

C-bridge steering

Swing originally linked the C-riser steering with the B-level. In practice, Swing did not find any advantage to this during prototype testing with the NYOS RS: deployment force was too high and too much speed was lost on stabilisation. Instead, an innovative and effective piece of webbing known as the C-bridge was uitlized, where the wing tips and the centre section can be stabilised separately or together, depending on how the C-bridge is pulled. This is used in the production NYOS RS and allows precise adjustments even at full throttle, without losing speed.

Limited Edition Colours

For a brief time, Limited Edition Colours will be available for pilots that want to stand out from the crowd.  These are destined to become classic paraglding wings.

Conclusion

Swing thought a lot about how to describe the NYOS RS as objectively as possible and without exaggerating. Anyone who has ever flown the NYOS RS agrees that the NYOS RS is incredibly simple to fly, particularly in turbulence and strong thermals, really fun, and you feel extremely comfortable with this paraglider.

The NYOS RS is the ultimate comfort-race machine for your XC adventures!

1) Swing Mito Paraglider, Solid EN-A

Purchase Inquiry Price Quote (Click Here): Swing Mito Paraglider

Leading with innovation, Swing presents with MITO with brand new Ram Air Section Technology (RAST) or more simply called "The Wall“. This makes MITO different from all other currently existing EN-A paragliders in the paragliding market.

If you are wanting to turn the dream of flying into a reality, then the MITO is the ideal glider for you. Its launch behaviour is uncomplicated and harmonious, which ensures that novices will make rapid progress and gives weekend pilots peace of mind in difficult areas or in challenging launch conditions.

Once you are airborne, the MITO will win you over with its balanced handling which, combined with excellent climb rate, guarantees unique flying experiences which make our sport so special.

The MITO is the result of a combination of innovative ideas, advanced technologies and sound development work, based on decades of experience in paraglider development. Swing's goal: to develop a paraglider on which beginners and occasional flyers can rely on 100% and which offers a good deal of flying enjoyment without over-exerting the pilot.

To quote Otto Lilienthal, a German pioneer of aviation:

“To design a flying machine is nothing. To build one is something. But to fly is everything”.

MITO’s distinctive design feature is the patent-pending Ram Air Section Technology (RAST). The MITO is the first glider to use this completely new design characteristic, distinguishing it from all other EN A paragliders currently available on the market.

RAST – Ram Air Section Technology

RAST divides the canopy crossways to the flight direction into different pressure sections and regulates the airflow in the wing through defined openings. During the launch procedure, the flow of air is thus slowed, so that the front third of the profile takes shape much more quickly than the back section. Conversely, the air cannot escape as quickly from the rear section of the wing if there is a collapse.

With RAST, the pilot enjoys the following benefits:

  • First, exceptional straight forward and even launch behaviour.  The paraglider has no tendency to overshoot or to launch the pilot unintentionally. The MITO positions itself properly above the pilot.
  • Second, the MITO remains calm in turbulent conditions. Should there ever be a collapse, the escape of air from the back section is slowed, which effectively prevents the trailing edge from emptying and thereby major collapses.

The operation of RAST was confirmed in numerous test flights and complex testing in cooperation with flying schools.

Design

3D-shaping of the leading edge for targeted tension control is now standard practice in paraglider design. However, corresponding 3D-shaping at the trailing edge in combination with the mini-ribs is needed to achieve a much better result.

Building on the lessons learned from the NYOS (high-end EN-B), MITO's ballooning at the trailing edge is reduced by a combination of 3D-shaping and mini ribs. Up to now, increasing glide performance was only achieved in the last 20% of chord of wing by flattening using mini. But the system of a lot of ribs creates the perfect chance for an additional 3D shaping.

For the MITO this change at the trailing edge to mini ribs throughout with internal seams plus 3D-shaping results in a higher trim speed of plus 1.5 km/hr and a clearly higher resistance against deep stall.

Special Features

  • shark nose profile changing fluently into low drag profile at the stabilos
  • mini ribs with internal seams and 3D-shaping
  • hybrid 3-liner guarantees easy and fast preparing for take-off

3) Swing Arcus RS Paraglider, Mid EN-B

Purchase Inquiry Price Quote (Click Here): Swing Arcus RS Paraglider

The name ARCUS generates high expectations. It is linked inseparably with Swing and stands for a revolutionary paraglider design, which has given many thousands of paraglider pilots a safe and easy introduction into our captivating sport over a period of nearly 20 years of paragliding.

The ARCUS RS, with its particular features and stylish appearance, joins this successful easy EN-B tradition. Innovative and redesigned, it departs from the well-worn paths of paraglider development and provides completely new impetus for our sport.

The unique new partition system, Ram Air Section Technology (RAST) now has additional valves, and the ARCUS RS is an impressive example of how it operates.

Launch becomes a stress-free experience – thanks to RAST!

The canopy initially inflates at the front along the leading edge, while the rear section of the canopy is still empty. This is characteristic of the RAST system and creates a self-stabilising, reflex-profile.

There are a number of advantages to this:

  1. The front part of the canopy fills very quickly, starting from the centre. This leads to the glider rising seamlessly and harmoniously without a tendency to overshoot.
  2. To date, there have not been any cases of Swing ARCUS RS test pilots being launched unintentionally, even in strong thermal conditions.
  3. The middle of the glider will not collapse even if the take-off run is very impulsive, as the entire front half of the glider promptly fills with air.
  4. Any tendency to overshoot is significantly diminished, even in a tail wind. There’s no longer a need for pilots to run after their paraglider downhill. Instead, they can take some time for a controlled launch.

The self-stabilising profile with RAST in the filling phase on launch. This gives the pilot safety and control even in difficult launch conditions!

RAST ensures that the ARCUS RS is pleasantly damped and extremely stable in flight

It is in turbulent air that RAST really puts its strengths into play, effectively stabilising the canopy and gently calming turbulent air. This makes the ARCUS RS extremely stable and forgiving, which results in noticeably improved precision and comfort during flight, and consequently also more control and better performance for the pilot.

Typical for RAST is that, as weight loading increases, the operation of the multi-chamber system during flight intensifies.

RAST effectively counters large-scale canopy deformation

With the ARCUS RS, RAST ensures resistance to large-scale collapses and stabilises the trailing edge. Collapses are extremely delayed or prevented, without the pilot actively steering. If the glider ever does collapse, there is much less deformation because of the higher internal pressure in the canopy’s rear section, and it does not spread right through to the trailing edge. The canopy reacts in a gentle and controlled manner and does not shoot forward much.

Front stalls generally do not go beyond the integrated "wall" and RAST also counters the dreaded rosette. The air remaining in the wing reduces to an absolute minimum any tendency towards dangerous line-overs and the pilot thus gets feedback through the brakes, even in difficult situations. The extremely rapid re-inflation means that there is very little loss of altitude if there is any problem with canopy stability, as the canopy does not completely empty.

Active Flying Tip:

If the pilot flies actively, then the pressure in the rear section can be increased again by braking, so that combined with RAST, resistance increases still further to prevent even small collapses.

You will be impressed by the ARCUS RS’s precision and speed both in thermalling and on cross-country flights

The trailing edge of the ARCUS RS, stabilised with RAST, benefits the pilot in both thermalling and on cross-country flights:

  • maintaining performance by solidifying the trailing edge in rough thermals
  • the response to brake input is precise and shows no delay
  • total control and manoeuvrability in thermal up-drafts
  • markedly increasing control pressure before the stall point
  • directional stability and efficiency on a level previously seen only in gliders with a higher classification and many cells or additional reinforcement
  • above-average stability at maximum speed

And if you ever need to get down quickly...

…all of the usual rapid descent methods such as Big Ears and B-Llne Stalls can be easily flown without high G-forces affecting the body.

RAST improves precision and handling

RAST makes and makes the entire wing more cohesive and responsive to brake inputs with the handling more direct, controlled and precise. Thus as pilots progress in the sport to flying the more basic aerobatic manouvers such as wing overs, the learning progression is more rapid and safe.

Design and technical highlights of the ARCUS RS

  • RAST 2.0 with additional valve flaps for a uniquely soft yet stable feeling while flying in turbulence, outstanding launch features and unequalled stability if there are canopy problems
  • Triple 3D-shaping on top and bottom surfaces allow superior control over tension and the profile
  • Mini-ribs on the trailing edge with internal seams and additional 3D-shaping
  • Lightweight construction with carefully selected combination of materials and elaborate design of internal ribs and cross-ports
  • Highest quality standards in manufacturing: the stitched-in V-ribs, for example, retain the shape of the wing and ensure maximum service life
  • Optimised canopy tension
  • Latest calculation and simulation methods
  • Reefing brake at the trailing edge for agile handling with excellent turning properties
